India: GSTN puts the 1 August 2026 e-Way Bill enhancements on hold
GSTN Advisory 668, dated 29 July 2026, keeps the proposed e-Way Bill and e-Invoice API enhancements on hold until further notice — three days before their 1 August 2026 go-live. Two changes are affected. First, the mandatory validated Ship-To GSTIN in Bill-To/Ship-To and combination transactions across IRN and EWB APIs, with 'URP' for unregistered consignees or destinations without a GSTIN. Second, the voluntary EWB Closure facility that would have let suppliers, recipients, transporters and drivers formally close an e-Way Bill after delivery via OTP. GSTN instructed taxpayers and service providers not to implement the changes, confirmed no production updates are required, and withdrew the supporting advisories of 9 and 17 June 2026 along with the FAQs published on 2 July 2026. No replacement date has been announced. ERP vendors, GSPs and ASPs that already shipped the Ship-To validation should keep it configurable rather than hard-enforced until GSTN reissues a timeline.
